"Others are engaging even in an eco-type of terrorism whereby they can alter the climate, set off earthquakes, volcanoes remotely through the use of electromagnetic waves."
-- United States Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen, April, 1997 Secretary Cohen made this statement at a conference on Terrorism, Weapons of Mass Destruction and U.S. Strategy in his official capacity as the US Secretary of Defense; thus this can be taken as an official position of the United States. Further he used the word "are," not "could," "might" or "maybe sometime in the future." He further added: "It's real, and that's the reason why we have to intensify our efforts." If the United States Secretary of Defense says that the earth and the sky have been turned into weapons, and are being used as such in present time, I believe we should take this statement very seriously. WEATHER WARFARE: The Military's Plan to Draft Mother Nature is not "conspiracy theory." This book has almost no theory and very little speculation. All the conclusions reached are the logical ones based on the presented facts. This is not "tabloid journalism." This is straight scientific reporting at a layman's level. I present solid evidence from military and scientific sources that intentional environmental modification (EnMod) is the 600-pound gorilla at the global warming debate that everyone is pretending isn't there. In my 1998 book HAARP: The Ultimate Weapon of the Conspiracy I used HAARP (the High-frequency Active Auroral Research Program) as a springboard to talk about globalist agendas such as the New World Order and Agenda 21. While there are passing references to Globalism in WEATHER WARFARE I keep such speculation to a minimum. That book was about the "who" and "why" behind the HAARP program, where this book documents the reality of intentional EnMod, and the threat to health and security it poses. The heart of WEATHER WARFARE: The Military's Plan to Draft Mother Nature is proof that EnMod, which most people believe to be science fiction, is actually science fact and that we have neither the political nor legal infrastructure in place to deal with this technology. Addressed at length is the dismal failure of the 1978 United Nations EnMod Convention, which prohibits the use of environmental modification as a weapon of war. The unaddressed issue of ongoing intentional EnMod by various militaries, terrorists and civilians is a key factor skewing the evidence in the global warming/climate change debate and as such is of gravest importance. The politics of the 21st century, and possibly our survival as a species, will turn on how this debate plays out. Despite the title, it is not just "The Military." A book's title is not precisely its contents, but rather a cry from the bookshelf to get a potential reader's attention. This book is about a great deal more than just the weather or the military. It is about the whole environment: earth, air and sea; it is about a lot of players: academic, commercial and military; with a lot of objectives: financial, militaristic and political.
There is substantial difference between climate and weather. Robert A.Heinlein wrote "climate is what you expect, weather is what you get." Mainstream science recognizes that man does have the ability to alter the weather on a limited scale intentionally, and to alter the climate on a vast scale unintentionally. I present solid evidence that what can be done intentionally is far greater than what the mainstream is willing to or able to admit. WEATHER WARFARE: The Military's Plan to Draft Mother Nature covers the history of "weather control" from the Rain Makers of the 1890s through the development of cloud seeding in the middle of the twentieth century, to today's "off the shelf" technologies of precipitation enhancement, hail suppression and fog dispersal. I cover the many programs to manipulate hurricanes, such as Project Cirrus and Project Stormfury, and what evidence there is of being able to control hurricanes in the 21st Century.
It also covers Defense Secretary Cohen's claim that "Others ... can ... set off earthquakes, volcanoes remotely through the use of electromagnetic waves." Starting with Nicola Tesla's earthquake machine of the 1890s I trace the possibility of "earthquakes on demand" from the development of a "tsunami bomb" during World War II (as revealed by documents recently declassified by the New Zealand government), through Project Faultless which caused a massive earthquake in the Nevada desert after a high yield atom bomb was intentionally detonated on a fault line, to evidences of human initiation of several major quakes and the 2004 Christmas tsunami with "scalar" or other electromagnetic waves.
Also included is an update on recent developments at HAARP. I analyze what they are willing to admit to having done with it and where the program may go in the future. The US Air Force insists that it has no interest in "controlling the weather" yet HAARP represents the expenditure of hundreds of millions of dollars and a decade of research and construction in a program whose avowed purpose is to modify the atmosphere. What, if any, is the difference between "modifying the atmosphere" and "controlling the weather"? WEATHER WARFARE also examines claims that chemicals are being deliberately injected into our atmosphere by high-flying planes that are criss-crossing our skies with "chemtrails." First I examine the environmental issues associated with jet aircraft condensation trails (contrails), which are indeed grave. Then I reveal that Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) and numerous other national and international panels of scientists have extensively, and expensively, studied ways to mitigate global warming through schemes called "geo-engineering." Edward Teller, father of the hydrogen bomb and Associate Director of LLNL, actually advocated putting up a "sunscreen" to save the Earth. He proposed injecting aluminum and barium dust particles high into the atmosphere to increase the amount of solar energy being reflected out into space as a way to offset the heating by greenhouse gases. Many scientific boards and committees have looked into this proposal and found it technologically feasible, but recognized that the legal and environmental hurdles would be too high to overcome to implement such a project--if done openly, so some proposed doing it covertly! Are they? Packed with hundreds of quotes, the environmental mayhem documented in this 402-page book is founded on a solid base of mainstream scientific, military and media sources. If you are researching this topic you may well find the 31-page bibliography to be worth the price of the book alone! Also included are three appendices which include the full text of the EnMod Convention and more than 150 EnMod patents granted by the United States Patent Office.
Jerry E. Smith is the modern day version of the common human's alarm system. His books stand alone as some of the most significant cutting edge information on what is, "really going on" in our world today. We could all stand to sit back and take the time to read and learn from the pages of what he has written and open our eyes to how insignificant we just may be to those we trust and empower to protect us. Jerry E. Smith has taken the time to go over countless details in every one of his books and to thoroughly research every single account he presents. Making his works some of the most credible, verifiable and well documented anywhere. I personally stand behind, recommend and endorse each and every one. ~ Dr. Ed Craft Host/ Executive Producer Magick Mind Paranormal Talk Radio http://www.magickmind.net

HAARP: The Ultimate Weapon?

"Seldom does a book become the seminal voice of reason when pitted against dangerous conspiracies that advance the agenda of special interests. Jerry E. Smith's HAARP: The Ultimate Weapon of the Conspiracy does just that. With utmost logic, it paints an accurate picture of governmental technology run amok in its attempts to spread American hegemony at any cost - perhaps even including planet Earth." Vin Smith Host/Producer Vin Smith's Midnight Bookworm Broadcast nationally on CRN Digital Talk and the National Radio Network This is a "video grab" from an interview with Jerry E. Smith on the Broadband Learning Channel, conducted in December of 2004. You can watch this thirty minute segment online at http://www.consciousmedianetwork.com/members/jsmith.htm
The High-frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP) is the largest and most powerful Department of Defense (DoD) facility of its kind in the world -- just what kind of facility it is, however, is the subject of heated debate.
The government says it is a pure science research station, one intended to increase our understanding of the upper atmosphere. Detractors are not convinced.
Some researchers think HAARP is a prototype for a "Star Wars" weapons system. It may be an over-the-horizon type radar ... or it may exist to destroy incoming ICBMs … or perhaps to fry out the electronics of enemy spy satellites … or it might be used to disrupt enemy radio communications. Researchers think it might be intended to do these things because those abilities are all described in the original patents that the HAARP antenna array is based on. The folks running HAARP deny any connection between HAARP and those patents, however. This, naturally, has opened them up to charges of cover-up and conspiracy. It’s not the only thing they seem to be lying about, either.
Once one gets the idea that the government (or civilian scientists working under government contract) is lying about something, the sky is pretty much the limit in speculations about what it is they are lying about. And with HAARP the sky is just the beginning!
Many researchers have looked into what HAARP is really intended for – and some have come up with some very strange sounding things! Some think it will be used to control the weather … others say it could be used to set off volcanoes, or trigger earthquakes. Still others see its potential for “Wining the Hearts and Minds” of our enemies by beaming emotions or commands directly into their brains. And some few even speculate that it will be used by the New World Order to take over the world by projecting holographic images into the sky while beaming thoughts directly into our heads, telling us to accept the new "god" of their design. And still others think it is part of a planetary defense system to protect us from invading aliens from outer space. And there are even wilder ideas about what “they” want to do with HAARP!
I began writing my 1998 book HAARP: The Ultimate Weapon of the Conspiracy with the intent to sort out truth from fiction in the many claims about what HAARP could or couldn’t do. I quickly learned that HAARP was but the tip of a very nasty iceberg.
I soon learned more about the down side of electromagnetic (radio frequency) technologies than I ever wanted to know. And that things are far worse in the Military-Industrial-Educational Complex than even I, as a “peacenik” from the ‘60s, imagined. My book became an examination of two major questions: what is the fundamental flaw in how we fund and conduct science, and how can a democracy defend itself from its own military and covert intelligence agencies?
FROM THE BACK COVER: The HAARP project in Alaska is one of the most controversial projects ever undertaken by the U.S. Government. This futuristic technology is everything from super-beam weapon to world-wide mind control device. HAARP has many possible scientific and military applications, from raising a planetary defense shield to peering deep into the earth. Jerry Smith gives us the history of the HAARP project and explains how it can be used as an awesome weapon of destruction. Smith exposes a covert military project and the web of conspiracies behind it and leads the reader down a trail of solid evidence into ever deeper and scarier conspiracy theories. By the end of the book, Smith convinces the reader that HAARP represents the ultimate in science out of control. It could be the most dangerous device ever created. The Star Wars future is now! "Smith and Piccard explore unexpectedly vast territory in Secrets of the Holy Lance."
-- Nexus: New Times Magazine, Vol 13, No 1, January - February 2006
According to the Gospel of John in the New Testament, as Jesus Christ hung on the Cross a Roman centurion pierced His side with a spear. A legend has arisen that "whosoever possesses this Holy Lance and understands the powers it serves, holds in his hand the destiny of the world for good or evil." Also called the Spear of Destiny, this strange relic has been written about for nearly two thousand years. Trevor Ravenscroft captured the world’s attention with his 1972 opus The Spear of Destiny. In 1988-89 Col. Howard Buechner released two books that became underground classics, Hitler’s Ashes and Adolf Hitler and the Secrets of the Holy Lance. These picked up where Ravenscroft left off, with the Spear leaving Europe to hide for a while beneath the ice of Antarctica. Since then the Spear of Destiny has appeared in scholarly tomes, novels, and even comic books: including Indiana Jones And The Spear Of Destiny, Hellboy, and Hellblazer, which gave us 2005’s box office miss Constantine. SECRETS OF THE HOLY LANCE: The Spear Of Destiny In History & Legend by Jerry E. Smith and George Piccard, weaves together the many threads of the Spear’s legend like no book before it has. SECRETS OF THE HOLY LANCE places this legend against the backdrop of world history: from its mythical creation by Tubal-Cain, seventh generation grandson of Adam, to its appearance at the Crucifixion; its use by Constantine, Rome's first Christian Caesar; to Charlemagne's claim that with it he ruled the Holy Roman Empire by Divine Right; and on through twelve hundred years of kings and emperors, until it came within Adolf Hitler's grasp -- and beyond! Did it really rest for a while in Antarctic ice? Is it now hidden in Europe, awaiting the next person to claim its power to shape the destiny of mankind? Or is it just an old spearhead, with no powers of its own?
SECRETS OF THE HOLY LANCE seeks to pierce the veil of myth and mystery around the Spear. Mere belief that it was infused with magic by virtue of its shedding the Savior's Blood has made men kings. But what if it's more? What are those "powers it serves"?
Topics include: The Christ Mind; The Holy Grail; The Templar Knights, Nazi Occultism: Blood Lodges & Secret Orders; Agharta, Shambhala & Atlantis; Nazi UFOs; Operation Paperclip; Testing The Spear; Operation Highjump, Station 211 & The Battle For Neuschwabenland; The Hartmann Expedition; The Rise Of The Fourth Reich; The Secret Of The Spear; Where Is The Spear Now? FROM THE BACK COVER: "Whosoever possesses this Holy Lance and understands the powers it serves, holds in his hand the destiny of the world!" Here at last is an unbiased, comprehensive study of the Holy Lance—the spear reputedly used by Longinus, the Roman centurion, to pierce the side of the crucified Jesus Christ to prove He was dead. A legend arose that "whosoever possesses this Holy Lance and understands the powers it serves, holds in his hand the destiny of the world." Whether it is a holy relic or a fake, world history has repeatedly turned on the possession of this strange object.
Secrets of the Holy Lance offers a sweeping look at the history of the Spear, starting with its alleged creation in the pre-historic workshop of Tubal-Cain, seventh generation grandson of Cain, the son of Adam. The Spear is traced through the Crucifixion to its possession by Constantine (Rome's first Christian Caesar), and on to Charlemagne(who claimed that with it, he ruled the Holy Roman Empire by Divine Right), then through another thousand years of kings and emperors, until it came within Hitler's grasp! Did it then rest for a while in Antarctic ice? Is it now hidden in Europe, awaiting the next man to wield its awesome power, while a clever fake is on display at the Hofburg Palace in Vienna?
Jerry E. Smith (also the author of HAARP: The Ultimate Weapon) is a staunchly independent journalist who in this book seeks to pierce the veil of myth and mystery around the Spear. Neither debunking nor worshiping, he reveals both the occult and secular powers of this world-historic talisman. Mere belief that it was infused with magic by virtue of its shedding the Savior's blood has made men kings. But what if it's more?
Is the Spear of Longinus an occult hotline to Higher Intelligences? What are "the powers it serves"? SECRETS OF THE HOLY LANCE The Spear of Destiny in History & Legend by Jerry E. Smith & George Piccard

JERRY E. SMITH'S TEAR SHEETS - Articles Published in the recent past
ARTICLES Welcome to this collection of my virtual "tear sheets." Tear sheets are copies of published pieces included with manuscript submissions to demonstrate the author's style, proficiency with language, and publishing track record. Here you will find a handful of favorite non-fiction articles and reviews that have been published over the last decade or so.

STAR TREK: SCI-FI OR PSY-WAR? Published in PARANOIA: The Conspiracy Reader, Issue #14, in 1996. This article notices amazing "coincidences" hidden in the meanings of the names of the characters on the original Star Trek television show; and questions whether this was just entertainment, or an attempt to subliminally alter the thinking of millions of Americans. PARANOIA wrote: "This highly entertaining article begins with the premise that modern media advertising is a form of psy-war waged against targeted demographics by major corporations, institutions and religions. Analyzing the names and motifs used in the long-running television show, Star Trek, the author attempts to show that it was a conspiratorial attack by the military-industrial-entertainment complex which aimed to subliminally convert American viewers to Catholicism. The author also suggests that Star Trek may have been a psy-war operation perpetrated by the Vatican to subvert the U.S., or may have simply been a vehicle for creating acceptance of a United Federation of Earth." This article was reprinted in The Conspiracy Reader: From the Deaths of JFK and John Lennon to Government-Sponsored Alien Cover-Ups, by Joan D'Arc (Editor), Al Hidell (Editor) Publisher: Citadel Press (January 1, 1999). Trade paperback: 354 pages, NOW AVAILABLE FROM AMAZON.COM! The back issue of the magazine is also available for $7.00 at http://www.paranoiamagazine.com/backissues.html
TELECOMMUNICATIONS BILL RAISES CONSTITUTIONAL QUESTIONS Co-authored with Citizen Lobbyist Juanita Cox, this news story was originally titled "Soccer Moms Kick Wireless Field-Goal." Constitutional issues are explored in this piece dealing with a campaign waged by the mothers of school children against a local school board, city officials and several multi-billion dollar telecommunications companies who wanted to put towers for cellular telephones on school grounds.
RANCHARRAH Written on commission for it’s millionaire owner, this lengthy article gives the history of a remarkable working ranch near Reno, Nevada. In detailed biographies of its two most important former owners, casino magnate William F. Harrah and Norman Henry Biltz, "The Duke of Nevada," it gives a seldom seen view of the Silver State.
SPACE COWBOYS An amusing little review of an amusing little movie.
UNCLE SAM IS TRYING TO KILL YOU Now a bit dated, this newspaper news article/op-ed piece from the early 1990s gives the opinions of two now-famous AIDS researchers and their contention that AIDS was not only man-made, but traced its point of origin to the United States Biological Weapons research facility at Fort Detrick, MD.
JIMMY CARTER COULD NEVER CERTIFY A NEVADA ELECTION I readily admit that this is not "real" journalism. It was a hasty rewrite of a candidate’s handout, in fact. But, it made the candidate and the publisher happy, and may have gotten some people thinking. It appeared in the NEVADA TERRITORIAL NEWS the week before the election. I plan to write a real piece on "vote scam" in the near future.
WHY JOHNNY REALLY CAN’T READ This is an analysis of the current crisis in the American Educational System, via reviews of two important books: "The Leipzig Connection: Sabotage of the US Educational System" by Paolo Lionni and "Educating for the New World Order," by B. K. Eakman.
FULLY INFORMED, YOUR RIGHTS AS A JUROR In this piece I take quotes from a large number of sources to prove that we, as American Citizens, have the right as jurors to pass judgment not only on the guilt or innocence of the defendant before us, but also on the validity of the law used to prosecute that person. This right is the final check and balance in our system of defending the people from the beast of government. This right is also one of the most abrogated, one of the least known rights in America today.

Exploring Black Rock City: America’s Newest "Lost" City This article about the annual Burning Man Art Festival appeared in World Explorer magazine, Vol.4, Number 7, Summer 2007.
THE EXTREMES ARE NOT THAT FAR APART! This is a review of the book "Derailing Democracy: The America The Media Don ’t Want You To See" by David McGowan. In this book admitted "leftist" author McGowan pulls back the emerald curtain of biased non-reporting in the mainstream media to reveal America’s hypocrisy abroad and increasing tyranny at home. The truly astonishing thing about this book is McGowan reveals the same "horrible truths" that the Patriot Movement has been trying to expose. This, to my mind, reveals that the "extremes" of Left and Right are great deal closer to each other, and to understanding the real problems of contemporary America, than the corporately owned shills of the dominant media would like us to know.
ELECTION 2000 This short article was posted to the American Media Association webwire as "My Thoughts on Election 2000: A Scam inside a Charade, Wrapped up in a Joke?" and sent by email to all the local newspapers. It was printed in full by the Nevada Territorial News (Vol. 1, No. 26, December 7, 2000) as "Hijacking the Election?", and published as a Letter to the Editor in the Reno News & Review (Vol. 6, No. 43, December 7, 2000) and in the local Gannett daily, The Reno Gazette-Journal, on December 8., 2000.
SINISTER FORCES IN OUR SKIES: THE UFO / BLACK HELICOPTER CONNECTION I met the late Jim Keith (author of Black Helicopters Over America: Strikeforce for the New World Order and a dozen other non-fiction books) in high school in 1966. Between that time and his untimely death in 1999 he and I worked on scores of projects together, from zines to weekly papers, from short stories to novels. We had plans to become a Tom Clancy-like fiction factory, but discovered our "fortunes" in writing non-fiction - much to our surprise. After the publication of Black Helicopters Jim found himself in demand with magazine publishers. He quickly learned that he didn’t like writing non-fiction articles - but didn’t mind cashing the checks! So he had me write a number of articles under his name (and split the pay). He would tell me what he wanted the article to say and from those instructions I would prepare drafts until he was happy with the piece. He then gave the piece its final gloss and submitted it. This one was written for the magazine UFO Universe.

DOMESTIC TERRORISM - BY AIR! This is another magazine article I wrote as Jim Keith. This was the cover story for an issue of Fate Magazine in April, 1996. This is not the version that appeared in print. This was my first version, which Jim rejected, thinking it was too "conspiratorial" for Fate. I wrote another version, much toned down, with the New World Order material removed and replaced with more "conventional" UFO stuff. That was the version that appeared in Fate. Oddly enough, after the article appeared Jim was called by the editor to thank him for the piece, and on the phone the editor commented that he wished it had been more conspiratorial, as he had hoped to take the mag in a new direction!
UFO CONSPIRACY From 1992 to 1995 I was the Executive Director of the National UFO Museum (NUFOM) in Reno, Nevada. I was also the Editor-in-Chief of that organization’s in-house magazine, Notes from the Hangar. This article was for its last, never-published issue. Jim Keith wanted to get this material in the issue (without actually having to write anything), so, I wrote this one as him, for him. This was based on the premise, and some of the material, from his book Saucers of the Illuminati (which at that time existed only as a spiral bond pamphlet from IllumiNet Press under the name "Jay Katz’).
TANKS ARE INTIMIDATING This short article has appeared in slightly different forms in numerous publications including Jim Keith’s zine "Dharma Combat" and "The Sentinel" published by the California and Nevada Freedom Coalition. This is a post 9/11 version.
21,782 This is the shortest short story I ever wrote. I know its fiction, but I wanted to add it to this database (so sue me!). This appeared in Jim Keith’s Dharma Combat Magazine: The Magazine of Spirituality, Reality and Other Conspiracies, No. 7, September 20, 1989.

A BIOGRAPHY OF JERRY E. SMITH
OVERVIEW:
With three mass market non-fiction books under his belt and successful speaking engagements from Brisbane to The Bahamas, Jerry E. Smith is an “overnight sensation” that has been more than three decades in the making. His career as a writer, researcher, activist, editor and lecturer began with the first professional sale of his writing back in 1969.
"Video grab" of Jim Keith from his appearance on With Liberty And Justice For All. Also joining Host Dennis Grover for that episode were Juanita Cox, Citizen Lobbyist, and Jerry E. Smith.
In 1991 Mr. Smith and Jim Keith, author of Black Helicopters Over America: Strikeforce for the New World Order and numerous other conspiracy and mind control books, founded the National UFO Museum (NUFOM) in Reno, Nevada. From 1991 to 1994 Mr. Smith was the Executive Director of NUFOM, while Mr. Keith acted as the Chairman of the Board. In addition to his administrative duties of running the day-to-day operations of NUFOM, Mr. Smith also edited and wrote for that organization's quarterly journal, Notes from the Hangar.
At the same time Mr. Smith worked as an editor/graphic artist with Jim Keith's magazine Dharma Combat: The Magazine of Spirituality, Reality and Other Conspiracies, until Jim's untimely death in 1999. Jerry served variously as Managing Editor and Art Director from Dharma Combat's inception in 1988. He was also a regular contributer under the penname of jarod o'danu.
Mr. Smith's life-long political and environmental activism and research has resulted in the publication of scores of news stories, opinion pieces and book and movie reviews for local and regional magazines and newspapers throughout the western states. Mr. Smith's work has also appeared in such national publications as Fate Magazine and Paranoia: The Conspiracy and Paranormal Reader.

DETAILS:
Jerry E. Smith’s interest in technology and its impact on society began early. At the impressionable age of eight he read Robert A. Heinlein’s Have Spacesuit, Will Travel, in which the teenaged hero is brought into an intergalactic court and forced to defend why humanity should not be terminated. That introduction to science- or speculative-fiction, which forced the reader to think, was overpowering. By age twelve he had read every sci-fi book in the local library; by the time he passed out of his teens he had read over 10,000 sci-fi and fantasy novels. What’s more he had become fascinated with ancient history and had read many of the surviving plays and epics of ancient Greece, Rome and Norse mythology. In school he excelled in the soft sciences (social studies and history). He had also begun what became a life-long study of the world’s great religions and philosophies.
Outside of school be became an activist, involved initially in the Civil Rights, and then the Anti-War movements. In 1967-68 he campaigned for Dick Gregory’s write-in bid for the Presidency. Throughout the late 1960s and early '70s he attended anti-war rallies and worked for liberal candidates. As an idealistic youth, not realizing where the liberal agenda was really coming from, he even joined pro-one-world-government organizations like The World Federalist Association and The Gradualist Way to World Peace.
As the Vietnam War wound down he turned his activism to the Environmental Movement. He joined the Sierra Club and became a founding member of The Cousteau Society. In the 1990s he would discover that globalist control freaks (like Maurice Strong, head of the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, who said: "Isn't the only hope for the planet that the industrialized civilizations collapse? Isn't it our responsibility to bring about?") had penetrated the environmental movement. After the fall of the Soviet Union, Jerry says, International Communism traded in its worn out red flag, wrapping itself in a new environmentalist green one.
“For proof of this,” Jerry wrote, “one hardly needs look further than the Green Cross International. Its purpose is to pick up where the Rio Earth Summit left off. It was founded in 1993 by Mikhail Gorbachev, a ‘hard line’ Communist and the last Supreme Dictator of the Soviet Union. ‘Gorbie,’ so beloved by the dominant, globalist owned media, said in an address to the United Nations, in December 1988: ‘Further global progress is now possible only through a quest for universal consensus in the movement towards a New World Order.’ What is Gorbie’s New World Order? The Green Cross says its mission is ‘to help create a sustainable future by cultivating harmonious relationships between humans and the environment. Green Cross concentrates its efforts on programs whose common theme is to promote a significant change in human values leading to greater respect and care for Earth's community of life in all its diversity, and to address the environmental causes and consequences of wars and conflict.” Are you ready to have green-for-red commies change your values? I’m not.” With that, he left the environmental movement.
Jerry’s work in writing and publishing began in amateur “little literary” magazines (these days called "zines") in 1966. Jerry met Jim Keith in high school. Jim was already active in science fiction “fandom,” a nearly century old “counter-culture” of clubs, conventions and amateur publishing. Jim introduced Jerry to fandom. After publishing his first science fiction fan magazine Jerry was hooked, and his declining grades in high school proved his "addiction." He soon became active (perhaps even "hyperactive") in the zine scene. He appeared regularly in APAs (Amateur Press Alliances); like the Los Angeles Science Fantasy Society's weekly APA, APA-L, and the Valley Science Fiction Association's biweekly, ValAPA. He also published several critically acclaimed general distribution fanzines (called "genzines"), such as untitled with (unindicted co-conspirator) Jim Keith. He founded the fantasy fiction oriented club, The Unicorn Society, and its Unicorn Amateur Press Alliance (UnAPA) in Klamath Falls, Oregon, in 1974.
In middle school and high school he was also an art student, eagerly studying drafting and architecture, and fine and commercial art. Before deciding on a career as a writer he had planned to be, first, an architect, then, a painter. But eventually his love for the written word won out. Jerry briefly considered going to college. By the time he was ready to seriously consider it he had already sold his first novel (long out of print) and, as a regular attendee of science fiction clubs and conventions was on a first name basis with about 40 professional authors and about a dozen editors. In 1971, around his 21st birthday, he took a survey of those publishing professionals, asking each of them if they had gone to college, and why. He was amazed to learn that only one of the authors, Larry Niven, had gone to college, but all of the editors had – and all of them had gone to learn to write! Jerry concluded that college must fill one up with the rules, stifling creativity. As one who wanted to be a professional science fiction author, college sounded like the last place on earth he should go! So, he has no academic credits, no initials after his name – just a lifetime of continuous research, reflection, observation and study.
Jerry moved from Southern California to Klamath Falls, Oregon, in 1972. There he explored a variety of arts beyond painting and publishing. He got into amateur theater, performing both in front of and behind the curtain in plays presented by the Klamath Civic Theater and Klamath Children's Theater (co-authoring the Children's Theater production he co-starred in). He also worked in an air-brushed-art on T-shirts shop, designing the art that he painted on shirts. For a short while he and Jim Keith co-hosted a weekly current affairs radio show on KTEC, broadcasting from the campus of the Oregon Institute of Technology (OIT). In 1973 he worked as the Art Director of the shopper-style newspaper The Linkville Star. In 1979 he wore that same hat at Skyline: Klamath Falls, where in addition to doing the make-up on each issue, he also did investigative reporting and ad sales.
During the period 1976-79 he saw more than thirty of his poems see print in the United States and Canada. Nearly all of his poems were published under the pen name of jarod o'danu. He has attended, and read at, more than 200 poetry readings. It was during this same period that he was introduced to Conspiracy Theory via Gary Allen’s None Dare Call It Conspiracy. He soon learned, such as through the private writings of Arnold Toynbee (1889-1975) the preeminent British historian, that the Accidental Model of history was a bought and paid for hoax, needed to hide the fact that history does not just “happen” but is made, that all political events are the result of intent, and are usually engineered by a cadre of the elite.
In the '90s (after wasting a decade of his life in Scientology – a long story!) he got serious about his writing career. While continuing to write poetry, he began to sell humor, film reviews and non-fiction on a variety of topics from AIDS to UFOs. He was a regular contributor to the Reno-Sparks area newspaper The View with topical articles, reviews and the science fiction "soap opera" in print, Fool's Gold, which he co-authored with Jim Keith.
He also branched out into writing for private parties, largely as a ghostwriter. He wrote all or part of over 40 novels, all of which appeared under someone else's name or a pen name. One such work was a 20,000-word history of a complex of mansions south of Reno called Rancharrah. The estate was founded in the late 1930s by Norman Henry Biltz, who was dubbed the "Duke of Nevada" by Fortune Magazine in 1954. Biltz sold out to William F. Harrah, the casino magnate, in 1956. His son, John Harrah, who lives there now, commissioned the history in 1996. John Harrah's intent was to produce a booklet he could give as a handout to his guests. You will find an up-dated version of this text in the articles archive on Jerry's website. Jerry’s first national magazine exposure under his own name was the article Star Trek: Sci-fi or Psy-war? in the Fall 1996 issue of Paranoia Magazine and reprinted in book form in The Conspiracy Reader: The Best of Paranoia Magazine, edited by Al Hidell and Joan d'Arc, Citadel Press/Kensington Publishing.
It was in 1991, or so, that Jerry read Timothy Good’s Above Top Secret and realized that one could not study UFOs to any depth without hitting Conspiracy Theory. UFOlogy is filled with evidence of government lies and cover-ups. At the same time he read a limited circulation underground book on Hitler’s disk-shaped aircraft. One of Jerry’s friends was intrigued with the possibility of building such a craft. Jerry’s attempt to find evidence, and technical specifications, for these craft led to the discovery that, at that time, there did not exist a museum of UFOs anywhere in the world – and he and Jim Keith decided to create one. For almost three years Jerry sank all the money he earned into trying to get the National UFO Museum (NUFOM) off the ground. The project was finally abandoned after Jim and Jerry learned that mainstream UFOlogy, in particular the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON), did not take kindly to these strangers invading their turf and had started a whisper campaign against them.
In 1996, a few years after closing the doors on NUFOM, Jerry’s career really took off with the contracts to write A History of Rancharrah for John Harrah and HAARP: The Ultimate Weapon of the Conspiracy for Ron Bonds at Illuminet Press. Ron had contacted Jim Keith asking Jim to write a book for Illuminet on HAARP, telling him that HAARP was the hottest subject on the Internet at the time. Jim declined, on the grounds that he was backlogged on four book contracts – but Jim put Ron in contact with his friend, Jerry E. Smith. Ron gave Jerry the go-head on the project in February 1996. It took until September to complete the first draft. Ron hated the draft and cancelled the project. Jerry sat on the manuscript for a year before remembering David Hatcher Childress at Adventures Unlimited Press (AUP). AUP had helped NUFOM, providing it with a number of UFO and other “off trail” books. David, it turned out, was looking for a book on HAARP and snapped it up.
Since the publication of HAARP: The Ultimate Weapon of the Conspiracy by AUP in 1998 Jerry has had an exhausting schedule, appearing regularly on TV and radio, as well as speaking at seminars and conferences across the US and around the world.

Jerry E. Smith will be the Featured Special Guest Lecturer at the Munroe Falls Paranormal Society's first annual Northeast Ohio Paranormal Conference (NEOPC) to be held at the NEOUCOM Ralph Regula Conference center in Rootstown, Ohio on Saturday, October 31st, 2009. The Northeast Ohio Paranormal Conference was born from an idea to bring together people that were interested in the paranormal and wanted to learn more and share their ideas. NEOPC will be free to attend. The conference will provide a forum for both experienced and non-experienced paranormal investigators and enthusiasts to share ideas, learn new techniques, see the latest technologies and much more. There will be short seminars throughout the day with workshops, technology displays and more. The conference will start at 9:00 AM and conclude at 7:00 PM. There will be several raffles through the day. Jerry E. Smith will give two talks on The Spear of Destiny, aka The Holy Lance. His morning address with cover from the Crucifixion of The Christ to the Lance's being sent into hiding to avoid Napoleon's clutches. This talk will focus on the paranormal powers of relics and in particular how the Spear of Destiny directed Constantine, The Great, to convert Rome to Christianity. The second talk, in the afternoon, will continue the story of the Spear of Destiny into the modern era, focusing on the Nazi's possession of the Spear and its use in SS Black Magic rituals; and beyond, to wild stories of Nazi flying saucers, a secret SS Base in Antarctica and the battle there between Nazis and Admiral Byrd in 1947. http://neoparacon.com/

Jerry E. Smith will be one of the "Dangerous Men" interviewed in the new book The Dangerous Man: Conversations with Free-Thinkers and Truth-Seekers – A Collection of Alternative Research by Karen Sawyer, to be published in 2010 by O Books of Berkeley, California. On this planet, there exists a diverse range of individuals – of all ages, cultures and beliefs – who have the potential to transform ‘life as we know it’ for the better. It is time for us to make informed decisions not only for ourselves, but for the future generations that follow. The informed spiritual individual is a powerful force to be reckoned with indeed… On a quest for truth, Karen Sawyer interviewed 32 of the most brilliant and controversial minds of our time, including; David Icke, Michael Tsarion, Bruce Lipton, Cleve Backster, Ralph Ellis, Jerry E Smith, Mary Croft, John Perkins, Peter Taylor, Ian R Crane, Winston Shrout, Michael Cremo, Ellis C Taylor, Jonathan Goldman, and Alan Wilson. The result is a curious combination of mystery, anomaly, and occult secrets among fascinating research and insights within history, science, commerce and law, the environment and much more. "A potpouri of hope for all our futures. Please read this and sense the wonders of freedom." - David Bellamy "The most dangerous mind is one that thinks for itself. This is a book to inspire the type of bravery needed to do just that." - David Southwell, author of Secrets & Lies and Conspiracy Files "The most complete guide to what free-thinking is all about. A true ‘red pill’, which only looks like a book." - Paul Bondarovski, The Dot Connector magazine. "What is genuine, what is a lie? What is real and what is false? In this remarkably incisive and honest work, the author, Karen Sawyer, in a series of fascinating interviews peels away the choking layers of disinformation, half truths and downright lies that have, almost since time began, been presented as absolute truth by those who choose to retain their grasp on power, and in some cases the nature of reality itself, by any means at their disposal. What is written here will entertain, shock, enrage and amaze in equal part, but ultimately it is a source of hope and I thoroughly recommend it to all who seek the truth." - Brian J Allan, paranormal investigator, researcher, and author of The Heretics, Can We Now Explain The Unexplainable To pre-order the book e-mail: dangerousman@arcconvention.org
BURNING MAN
A Toast To You from Jerry E. "The Colonel" Smith. Shot in Atomikamp at Burning Man 2007 by Danielle Fewings.
Every year since 2000 (except for 2005) I have attended Burning Man, the annual art festival held in the Nevada desert. For a look at what I've experienced at Burning Man see Exploring Black Rock City: America’s Newest "Lost" City an article that appeared in World Explorer magazine, Vol.4, Number 7, Summer 2007. It is in the articles archive of this site at http://www.jerryesmith.com/index.php/136.
To learn more about Burning Man from The Source see http://www.burningman.com/
The group I camp with is called Atomikamp because we are members of and hangers-on to the Reno-based dance band The Atomiks. The leader of the Atomiks is my best friend George Pickard. His first year at Burning Man was 1998. In 1999 he and our mutual best friend Jim Keith attended together. Tragically, Jim suffered a broken knee that led to his death a few days later. In 2000 I attended for the first time, in part to see what contributed to Jim’s death. Jim predicted that I would love Burning Man, and he was right. In 2000 I went with George and a few of his close friends. The Atomiks were signed to 702 Records http://www.702records.com/, owned by Pete Manchetti, who also owns Sticker Guy http://www.stickerguy.com/. We all camped with Pete and his entourage at his theme camp, Installation 23, located on the corner of 7:30 and Throat. At Installation 23 George built a cardboard sanctuary to the UFO Jesus. Among the notable events that year was that it rained most of the day Friday and all night, turning to a dusting of snow to the playa floor by morning. It being my first year and not knowing what to expect I packed a little of everything including two snow suits. We got there late Wednesday night. The fellows laughed Thursday when they saw the snow suits – and stopped laughing the following day when George and I were warm and they were shivering! Since then I always take several suitcases of clothes and severe weather gear, leading my campmates to compare me to Mrs. Howell from Gilligan’s Island – which I don’t mind a bit!

"Sticker Guy" Pete, in Prague 2003 In 2001 George, his wife Kristin, and I again camped with Pete. This time I arrived early, on the Wednesday before opening day. I spent the week before opening help other camps get set up and wandering about engaging in conversations with the artists and artsy types. Pete’s camp that year was FellowHumans.org, from a website he has http://www.fellowhumans.org/. The website has about 4000 photos of people’s faces that he'd taken. Looks like he has not up-dated the site since 2003. For Burning Man 2001 he had planned to set up a photo booth but never got around to it. All he managed to pull together was a bar featuring music from the "trash rock" bands he had signed to 702 Records. George created a computerized preacher that babbled religious nonsense at passers-by called The Rant-o-matic. We were located on 3:30 right behind the Esplanade. The camp on the corner of 3:30 and Esplanade next to us was called Jungle. It was a twenty-something-year-old stripper from San Diego and her two boyfriends. They intended to put up a 26-foot geodesic dome and fill it with plastic plants and misters making a chill space. They spent most of the week at it and only got the dome about 1/2 up. At Exodus they asked us if we wanted the dome and gave it to us so they didn’t have to take it down. Pete has used it in several years since. 702 Records was called that because Pete wanted to sign every band in Nevada, and the area code for Nevada was 702. In 2001 the phone company split the state’s area code, making Las Vegas 702 and the rest of the state 775. This gave Pete a problem, as he then needed a new name for his label. Pete was too busy having fun to really run the camp and the bar got horribly messy, with empty beer bottles and trash everywhere. I complained to Pete, telling him he was slovenly. He didn't know what the word meant! He got back to Reno, looked it up and went "Yes!" and renamed 702 Records Slovenly Recordings. I guess I don’t know my own strength! Later he bought a bar in Naples, Italy (where he lives part of the year) and called it Bar Slovenly.

In 2002 Atomikamp went Big Time. That year the over-arching theme for Burning Man was The Floating World. George wanted the Atomiks to play at Burning Man that year, and he wanted to be on the Esplanade to ensure a good crowd. He asked me to come up with an idea that would make that happen. I came up with Irwin Allen’s Beneath The Floating World, a disaster movie that had it self become a disaster. We were the big blue box on the corner of Esplanade and 3:30. We built and operated a full-on nightclub, with stage for the band, 2 DJs, go-go dancers, and more. Each area of the camp was a set from the film, such as the bar was Barnacle Bill’s Barter Bar and Bachinalium. In it I gave away 40 gallons of my homebrewed beer. Irwin Allen’s Beneath The Floating World was a huge success, but a fantastic amount of work. We had all of Pete’s people in the camp, plus a lot of fans of the band, making for some 38 campmates – and only about a dozen actually helped run (and clean up) the nightclub. I was totally burned out and vowed never again. I am still pissed off about slacker twenty-somethings… In 2003 I had had it with being in the heart of the action and convinced George, who brought his mom that year, to camp out it the ‘burbs. We were just Atomikamp and did nothing on site, content to spend our time wandering about Black Rock City. We were located at about 7:15 and Reality. Atomikamp was just a few yards from a camp with over 200 Russians. We partied with them during the week and sampled cool Russian food. Our location was too far from most everything and we moved back closer to the action in 2004. In 2004 Atomikamp became a sub-camp of Jub Jub’s. We were located at the back of that huge camp, which was on the Esplanade at about 2:55. We were only a few yards from where we had been in 2001. That year George built an art car, The Hideous Monster Comet, an escaped villain from a made-up Japanese monster flick.

Two view of George's art car, The Hideous Monster Comet, in Reno before going out to Black Rock City.
I missed 2005. A week before The Burn I was mugged and had my head crushed in. Opening Day I went under the knife at St. Mary’s Medical Center. In 2006 Atomikamp was supposed to again be a part of Jub Jub’s but there wasn’t room for us, so we pitched camp a block or so away. We were on a street corner (I forget exactly where, maybe 8:30 and A or B) and all agreed we preferred being on a corner. Again we didn’t do a theme camp, but just watched Burning Man go by.
George Piccard and his son George at our spontaneous BUBBA GUMPS SHRIMP CUP-O-NOODLES DISTRIBUTION CENTER in front of our camp in 2007. Jerry E. Smith is seated in the camp wearing a white pith helmet and sunglasses. The Yardist, a friend in Sparks, donated several cases of shrimp ramen, which the Georges passed out to passers-by. That year Atomikamp was The Lion's Head Bar and Observatory. If I recall correctly this photo was taken by Nico Aguilera.
In 2007 we were again on a corner, 8:30 and Grassland (I think), and decided to try our hand at a theme camp again. George asked us each what we liked most about Burning Man. I said the dust storm whiteouts. That gave George an idea. He built a platform on top of the band’s van, the AtomiVan, to be an observatory. Initially it was to be a weather/whiteout observatory, then we discovered our neighbors across 8:30 had trampolines, and we found watching naked people jumping on trampolines hilarious.

It was an awesome year for observations! That year we had every kind of weather, including whiteouts, day-time "blackouts" (from dense rain clouds above the dust storms), rain, a double rainbow, an eclipse of the moon, and a meteor shower and The Man burned early by a nut-job! We also set up a small bar on the corner to invite passers-by to join us in libations. George’s co-workers had given him a fiberglass lion’s head which he placed on the bar, naming us The Lion’s Head Bar and Observatory.
Primary signage for The Black Rock City Fallout Shelter (and Afterglow Lounge), Burning Man 2008, taken by Danielle Fewings. Behind the sign is The Wall Of Hope. To the right was the entrance to the elevator lobby and to the right of that was The Wall Of Fear. Passers-by were invited to record their Hopes and Fears on these walls. The arrows below ATOMIKAMP point down as we were 200 feet down, inside an abandoned US Government survival bunker.
…strolling along the dusty streets of Black Rock City, you come upon an elevator. Above the elevator doors is the universal fallout shelter sign, to your right, a button with a down arrow. You reach a finger out, and press. The button illuminates, and shortly after, the doors open. You walk in, the doors close behind you. Inside the elevator, there are two sets of doors — the ones which you’ve just come through, and those in front of you. In front, there are windows, and you can see the playa. You hear a tremendous explosion. As you feel the elevator begin to descend, you watch through the windows, and see a mushroom cloud envelop BRC. And then, just before the nuclear fireball reaches you, the elevator sinks below ground. A recorded message begins:”You’re about to enter the Black Rock City Municipal Fallout Shelter, where you’ll be safe from whatever disaster has brought you here…” The elevator stops. Through the dust coated windows you can barely make out the details of the room in front of you. The doors open, you step forward into the shelter. There are stockpiles of food and water, gas masks, tables with board games and wine bottles. Dozens of burners are drinking, dancing, and laughing. Don’t they know the outside world has just been obliterated? A black and white television in the corner has the news on it. Footage of the nuclear holocaust is looped, as the anchorman repeats in disbelief… ”All is lost. The world as we know it, annihilated.” So read George Pickard's description of our Theme Camp, as submitted to Burning Man organizers in our request to be assigned a slot as one of the official theme camps for 2008. They liked the idea so much we were again given a place on the Esplanade.
2008 was a near exact repeat of 2002. We again built a full-on nightclub on the Esplanade -- totally walled in and roofed this time. Instead of pods for go-go dancers, this year the bar had a cage -- and women went crazy in it! More than merely another bar, ours was the only one on the playa with a motion simulator ride as a front door!

We were The Black Rock City Fallout Shelter (and Afterglow Lounge). We took celebrants down 200 feet beneath the playa to party in an abandoned US Government survival bunker – at least that was the story. We built a gizmo that simulated an elevator so well that literally scores of people came up to the bar asking "are we really underground?" Another big success! And it was another year that was a lot of hard work – but luckily I did not find it as overwhelming as 2002.
Will and his son Aryx. Photo by Nico Aguilera.
One of the Atomikampers is Will, a retired school teacher from San Francisco (who taught George and two of his friends, Chris (The Phunny Guy) who always kamps with us, and James, who joined us for the first time this year, in Junior High) . Will's son, Aryx, camps with a group from New York called Heyyy Camp. In 2008 father and son wanted to camp together so we combined the camps. Again we had 30 plus people in the camp. I think we merged to two camps fairly well, but I doubt if we’ll do it again.
The AtomiVan with the walls and other major pieces of our 2008 kamp in Nixon, Nevada, on the way to Black Rock City. Photo by George Pickard.
I arrived on-playa on Wednesday before opening day, as in 2001. This time I wasn’t alone. George and I went out together with the 60-some 4x8 panels, palette jack, and other hardware that made up the bulk of the lounge and "elevator", arriving near sunset and stymied by strong winds and blowing dust. We just got the tent up and slept. We unloaded the trailer Thursday morning. It had taken a team of half a dozen people almost 3 weeks to build the lounge and elevator in Reno (in George’s back yard), a day for the team to dismantle it and 3 hours more to get it into a borrowed trailer. George and I unloaded it and got the walls back up in a few hours! We had to do redesign on the fly -- we got the first wall up and immediately the wind came up and blew it down! But by mid-afternoon we had the bar fully enclosed. George then returned to Reno, en route to a business meeting in San Diego the following day! We still had a lot of work to do to finish it. Over the course of the following week other Atomikampers and Heyyy Campers filtered in. Some helped with the construction, some didn’t. We were finally ready to open Tuesday night, a day after Burning Man opened.

I spent most of each day, the week of The Burn, just sitting on the Esplanade in front of the Wall Of Hope watching Burning Man go by; and most of each night helping operate the lounge and its motion simulator, taking turns as Elevator Operator and crowd control/"ticket taker".
I did achieve one of my Burning Man dreams that year. One morning I got to ride through all of Black Rock City on a art car playing classical music.
Jerry E. Smith with Preston Dane, David Ort and Annie Vainchenker, at Burning Man 2008. Photo by Nico Aguilera. These three young New York artists created Arbor Animus, meaning Spirited or Courageous Tree. It was a 15-foot-tall, multimedia, fully-interactive, artistic representation of an American Willow tree which evoked the American Dream. On each colored leaf of the tree is an image that represents the actual “American Dream” of a different individual from across this country. Combining figurative painting and sculpture with LED and fiberoptic lighting, this gentle giant provided shade during the day and brilliant lighting effects at night. See: http://www.arboranimus.com
Preston, David and Annie joined Atomikamp for a Feed The Artists Dinner on August 23, the Saturday Night before the official opening of Burning Man at 12:01 AM Monday, August 25. After dinner we were joined by Larry Harvey, Burning Man Founder and Christine Kristen aka LadyBee, Curator of the Arts at Burning Man. Photo by Nico Aguilera.

As best I can tell, we are agreed, next year will build another art car. When we have plans for 2009 I’ll post them here. If you want to join us let me know!
